These are some images from the exhibition held at Workshop 1 studio in Botany. Though we promised some photos of the night it appears that everyone was having too much of a good time to take any ! Oh well. That is somehow a marker of the success of the night we think. Our planning that assumed most people would move on to other Friday night adventures by about 8pm was proved hilariously wrong and we ended up ordering 15 pizzas at 10.30pm !
About half of all the exhibited works were sold, and luckily for us a few have yet to be picked up so we’re still enjoying a rather serene and inspiring atmosphere in our studio. For us though (who made no commission from the sales) the reward was seeing our studio building working successfully in another mode and full of people who were getting to appreciate the space. It is important we think that a building can have potential. Architects studio, art gallery, second residence/ granny flat, joinery/ furniture/ model making workshop, music studio/ rehearsal rooms, cafe….this is just the beginning of a list we’re adding to every day. In the meantime though architecture is holding the territory in both physical and intellectual ways!
And a big thank you to the artists; Lynn Cook, Ben Taylor and John Murray who filled the space with such wonderful work.
